Even a one or two minute shorter shower can save up to 700 gallons of water a month. Consider turning the water off while you soap up and wash your hair…and turn it back on to rinse off. (Some call this a ‘Navy’ shower; this is the preferred method on board a military ship because there isn’t a lot of water to spare for bathing.) Multiply that reduction in water use by the number of people in your household and you’re talking about some serious water savings! You can cut your shower water usage in half by installing a low flow shower head…plus you save all the energy that would have been used to heat the water.
